Dependent or Family Member Tax Returns
As a courtesy to our clients, we offer dependent and other family member return preparation. Fees vary depending on the level of involvement and coordination required. For those who prefer to file independently, we’ve included links to free IRS and state resources. Here are the costs to prepare returns for family members of clients:

Notes:
If a dependent decides to file on their own and still be claimed as a dependent on the parent’s tax return, they need to mark themselves as a dependent on their own tax return. Otherwise, the dependent cannot qualify on the parent’s tax return as a dependent.
If a child is applying for FAFSA and does not file as a dependent, they may still have to claim their parent’s income.
- Dependent children who are claimed on client tax returns:
- $100 minimum if they are present or sign in-office (quick and convenient).
- $150 if not present and we need to coordinate signatures or logins (reflects extra admin time).
- Adult children who are not dependents on client tax returns:
- $250 minimum for full return.
- Convenience & peace of mind: Their children’s returns are handled accurately and in coordination with their own — minimizing filing issues and dependency errors.
- Flexibility: Clients can choose to file on their own using the resources we provide, so they’re not locked in.
- Family consistency: We ensure all dependent-related entries match across returns, helping avoid IRS notices or delays.
